The Rivers State Waste Management Agency, says a taskforce has been set up to enforce the ban on refuse dumping on roads in the state, and also arrest defaulters.
Sole administrator of the agency, Bro. Felix Obuah disclosed this in a statement yesterday.
He urged residents to obey the law and dump their wastes at approved dumpsites, as defaulters will be dealt with inline with the laws of the land.
Meanwhile, some officials of RIWAMA, yesterday explained the reason behind the delay in evacuating wastes on the road.
One of the officials in a chat with journalists, said the delay was due to the bad state of roads leading to dumpsites in the state.
He said their vehicles always get damaged anytime they visit the dumpsite to evacuate wastes. “Any vehicle that get to the dumpsite to evacuate wastes hardly returns,” he said.
He called on the state government and RIWAMA, to fix the bad roads leading to dumpsites for effective waste evacuation.
