Rivers United have qualified for next year’s Champions League despite a 1-0 defeat by relegation threatened Sunshine stars, in the last game of the season.
This was after the Disciplinary Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation, awarded them three points and three goals deducted from Jigawa United for fielding an ineligible player when the two teams met few days ago.
Rivers United, would have ended the season in a distant sixth position with 63 points, if not for the decision.
The League Management Company, had dismissed United’s appeal, stating that it could not reach Jigawa United to rule out the ineligible player before the encounter.
Enyimba who were second in the standings on 66 points, will now play in the CAF Confederations cup.
