The Rivers State Government has said it will prosecute the 22-man staff of ExxonMobil, intercepted by the Police while coming into the state at Oyigbo from Akwa Ibom.
Governor Wike made this known during the COVID-19 briefing, today in Government House Port Harcourt. He said the government would apply same measures used in prosecuting the Caverton Pilots who were arrested few days ago for flouting the lockdown order in the state.
Wike swore to pursue the case to it’s end as he said no one, no matter how highly placed will dictate to him on what to do, as he remains an elected Governor. I have ordered the Attorney General of the State to prosecute them, we are headed for the courts. Nobody can stop their trial. We are not in a military era, he declared.
Gov. Wike also said, despite the waiver issued to the staff, they have no right to enter the state without informing the state government. “O! Because you have waiver, you can come and infect us with the virus and expect us to keep quiet, never”, he noted.
Wike equally stated that, the government doesn’t have N10 Billion to fight the virus. This is why it will not allow anyone to come spread the coronavirus in the state.
