The Rivers State Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga A. Adepoju, has urged police officers to plan strategically for life after retirement, emphasizing the importance of self-preparedness and personal financial management.
Police spokesperson SP Grace Iringe-Koko stated that the Commissioner of Police CP Adepoju offered the advice during the 20th-anniversary celebration of Cadet ASP Course 22 at the Police Officers’ Mess in Port Harcourt.
CP Adepoju likened the police career to a race, where officers must take responsibility for their pensions and post-service welfare. He highlighted that government employment alone does not guarantee financial security, urging officers not to depend solely on colleagues or miracles for retirement support.
He encouraged the officers to set clear goals, create actionable plans, and pray for a purposeful and meaningful retirement life.
ACP Israel Ukpong, speaking on behalf of the Cadet ASP Course 22 members, expressed gratitude for their journey, which began with 609 cadets in 2005 but now numbers 510 following various challenges and losses.
The event featured the presence of CP Adepoju, members of his management team, Course 22 members, families, friends, and media representatives. The highlight of the ceremony was the cutting of the anniversary cake and a group photograph of the celebrants.
