A man identified as Chigozie Ajie has been remanded at the Port Harcourt Correctional Center for allegedly raping and aborting the pregnancy of his 13-year-old maid in 2020, by a Magistrate Court in Port Harcourt.
The suspect, who is facing a 3-count charge bordering on threat to life, abortion and rape, was arraigned in court yesterday.
The Chief Magistrate, R.N Ibinabo adjourned the matter to January 25, 2022 and ordered that the case be transferred to the Department of Public Prosecution for legal advise.
This was after she declined to entertain the charge on threat to life, stating that the court lacks jurisdiction to entertain the matter.
A family member of the victim, in a chat with journalists said the man after impregnating the girl, took her to Bright Medicals, Omoku, where the pregnancy was aborted.
He stated that Mr Chigozie escaped when the matter was reported to the police, and that it took the Police 9 months before he was arrested in Port Harcourt.
He called for justice to be served in the matter to serve as deterrent to others.
