The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of the Independent Electoral Commission in Rivers State, Johnson Alalibo Sinikiem, has declared open a three-day training programme for Supervisory Presiding Officers (SPOs) ahead of the forthcoming Rivers South East Senatorial District bye-election scheduled for June 20.
The REC, who was accompanied by the Administrative Secretary, Angela Ebhodaghe, and other members of the Commission’s management team in the state, formally flagged off the exercise as part of final preparations for the election.
In his opening remarks, Dr. Sinikiem urged participants to give full attention to the training, stressing that it was designed to properly equip them for effective discharge of their duties during the bye-election.
He noted that the programme forms part of the Commission’s broader efforts to ensure a smooth, credible and successful conduct of the Senatorial bye-election in the Rivers South East Senatorial District.
Also present at the opening ceremony were the State Training Officer, trainers from the INEC Headquarters in Abuja, as well as senior staff of INEC in Rivers State.
