Attorney General of Rivers State, Zaccheus Adangor has said that defaulters of the State Residency Bill will pay the sum of one hundred thousand naira as fine.
Adangor, made this known during a radio interview in Port Harcourt, at the weekend.
He said the bill requires mandatory registration of all persons who lives and does business in Rivers State.
He also said an agency that will superintendent the implementation of that bill will be established.
“So if you come to Rivers state and you are going to stay in the state for a period of more than 2 weeks, you will be bound to register,” he said.
“Of course, you can register in person or register electronically. And if you fall to register, that constitutes an offense under the bill when passed into law,” Adangor added.
Meanwhile, the Northern community in Rivers State has promised to challenge the bill in court.
Leader of the community, Alhaji Musa Saidu, in a statement said the bill is “retrogressive and anti north.” He said it will be resisted.
