The Nigerian Correctional Service, Rivers State command says about 442 inmates are on death row in prisons in the state.

Comptroller General of the Correctional Service in the State, Felix Lawrence in a statement said the figure includes those at Port Harcourt, Degema, Elele and Ahoada.

According to him, a total of 4,403 inmates are in the correctional centres. 

He stated that they will partner with other relevant government agencies to decongest the centres.

“As of this morning, we have a total of 4,403 inmates. For death row, we have 427 male inmates and 15 female inmates on,” he said.

“Rivers State Command comprises Port Harcourt maximum security correctional centre, Degema medium-security correctional centre, Ahoada custodial centre and Elele custodial centre,” he added.
