The Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, on Monday personally supervised a statewide enforcement operation targeting vehicles with covered, obscured, or unregistered number plates in parts of Port Harcourt.
The exercise, carried out alongside officers of the State Traffic Department and members of the Command’s management team, covered key locations including GRA Junction on Aba Road and Ikwerre Road. Several motorists found in violation of the law were arrested and arraigned before a mobile court sitting at the Police Traffic Section, Mile 1 Divisional Police Headquarters.
Addressing journalists during the operation, CP Adepoju said the enforcement drive was in compliance with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, aimed at strengthening security and improving public safety.
He warned that vehicles operating without registration plates or with concealed number plates would be impounded, while their owners would face the appropriate sanctions.
The Police Commissioner noted that intelligence reports indicate that such vehicles are frequently used in criminal activities, including the movement of arms and ammunition, kidnapping operations, and other unlawful acts, stressing that the Command remains committed to denying criminals the opportunity to evade identification.
