The Performing Musicians Employers’ Association of Nigeria (PMAN), Rivers State Chapter, has threatened legal action against individuals involved in defamation and the circulation of allegedly false information about its leadership.
The association, in a statement issued by its President, Comrade Mosese Olusegun Mabadeje, popularly known as BigMozy, said it would henceforth pursue legal action against anyone found to have crossed the boundaries of lawful criticism through defamatory statements, cyberbullying, harassment or the deliberate spread of false information.
PMAN Rivers was reacting to what it described as misleading and disparaging remarks circulating on social media concerning its leadership and the activities of its executive team.
The association maintained that the allegations were unsubstantiated and unfounded, insisting that its leadership remained committed to developing the music industry and improving members’ welfare.
It explained that its executive team was working on a comprehensive blueprint to establish sustainable policies, programmes and institutional frameworks to promote the growth, protection and economic empowerment of musicians across Rivers State.
Defending its approach, the association said the absence of frequent publicity about its activities should not be mistaken for inactivity.
“Nevertheless, the absence of constant publicity should never be misconstrued as an absence of work,” the statement said.
While acknowledging the importance of constructive criticism and open dialogue, PMAN urged members and stakeholders with genuine concerns to use appropriate channels to seek clarification and present their grievances.
The association, however, warned that it would not tolerate deliberate attacks on the reputation and integrity of its leadership, executives or members.
It also advised stakeholders to verify information before publishing or circulating allegations concerning the association.
PMAN Rivers reaffirmed its commitment to promoting professionalism, intellectual property protection, capacity development and economic empowerment, while building an organised and internationally competitive music and entertainment industry in the state.
