Some teachers in Rivers State have issued a 7-day ultimatum to the state Ministry of Education and the Senior Secondary Schools Board to remove the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers in the state, Lucky Igbogene as he has retired from service.
The teachers, who staged a peaceful walk to the Ministry of Education, in a chat with journalists on Saturday, threatened to stage a massive protest if their demand is not met, upon expiration of the ultimatum.
One of them said it was shocking that Mr Lucky, has remained in office, after he was at the forefront to unseat the former Chairman, Nwogu Geoffrey who continued as Chairman after his retirement from service.
They advised him to obey the Constitution of the union and handover to his deputy, which is the right thing to do.
On his part, Mr Lucky when contacted said it is true that he has retired, but the union has a procedure of handling such situation.
