The Rivers State Chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, has appealed to the new Commissioner of Police in the state, Friday Eboka to give journalists the needed protection, especially during elections.
Chairman of the NUJ, Stanley Job disclosed this in a statement yesterday, in Port Harcourt.
He noted that journalists have been repeatedly attacked while carrying out their legal duties in the state, especially during elections.
The State Commissioner of Police, Eboka Friday on his part said the command is seeking collaboration with the media and Civil Society Organizations in the state.
The CP, who made this known in a chat with Journalists yesterday, said there would be regular interface with critical stakeholders, in a bid to rid the state of crime and criminality.
He also stated that the command under his watch will be accountable and responsible to the people of the State.
