The Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), has promised to look into the challenges that may hinder persons living with disabilities from participating fully in the forthcoming local government elections in the state.
Chairman of the commission, Retd. Justice George Omereji disclosed this in a meeting with the leadership of Persons Living With Disabilities, in Port Harcourt.
The union had visited the commission, to ensure that they take necessary measures that would enable them participate in the poll.
Chairman of the group Kio Ogbomanu during the meeting, said lack of accessibility, lack of inclusiveness and integration were some of the problems they face.
He said Main streaming of government policies in health, education, employment are also part of the problem.
He noted that they have the right to participate in elections just like anyone else.
