The Rivers State Government has said that over 15,000 persons may be displaced and affected by floods across the state this year, owing to heavy rainfall.
Commissioner for Special Duties, Dr. Thomas Bariere disclosed this when a delegation of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) paid him a courtesy visit in his office over the weekend.
He noted that proactive measures have been put in place to mitigate the effects of the floods on the people
“…Local Flood management committee have been set up across the various Local government areas concerned with the collaboration of the LGA council chairmen, the intention is to ensure there is effective monitoring and sharing of information…” He said.
