Member representing Ideato Federal Constituency of Imo state, in the House of Representatives, Hon. Ikenga Ugochinyere has called on the Police not to take sides in the current political crisis in Rivers State.
Ugochinyere, made the call on Thursday during a press briefing in Port Harcourt, for a three-day retreat with the Joint Committee on Midstream and Downstream Petroleum of the House.
He noted that Rivers State is so far peaceful and urged the Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, and the Rivers State Commissioner of Police Olatunji Disu to respect the Governor and Rivers people.
“The Governor and the people of Rivers State deserve respect. Indiscriminate police actions are unacceptable in a democracy.”
“The police must prioritize respecting the people’s rights and avoid actions that unfairly favor any Abuja-based politician.”
“If Rivers State wasn’t peaceful, we wouldn’t have over 80 lawmakers here for this retreat,” he pointed out.
“We want this peace to continue. We urge the IGP to remain impartial and not assist any faction,”
