A State High Court sitting in Nchia, Eleme Local Government Area, Rivers State, has ordered the Nigeria Police Force to pay the sum of hundred million naira, to the family of one Nte Nwokolu Nte who was killed by inspector, Emeka attached to the Anti-Kidnapping unit of the state command, last year.
The trial judge, Justice C.D. Green, gave the order, yesterday, in a suit filed by Godgift Nte Nwokolu, against the NPF and two others, over the killing of her father.
Counsel for the applicant, Obaraianenu Nwokolu, in a chat with journalists after the court ruling, said the judge also ordered that the corpse of the deceased be released to the family.
He hailed the ruling, adding that the judgement was an opportunity to all citizens to know that they can seek redress in court, if the Police or any other individual or entity abuse their right.
The deceased, according to reports was shot dead by officers of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, Mini-Okoro Police Station, when they stormed Njuru community of Agbonchia clan in Eleme LGA to effect arrest of some persons in September last year.
