Federal Lawmaker, Chinyere Igwe will remain in the custody of the police as a federal high court sitting in Port Harcourt has failed to grant him bail.
The court presided by Justice Stephen DAYLOP-PAM today during the court sitting ordered that Chinyere Igwe be sent back to the custody of the police and thereafter reserved ruling on his bail application to a date that would be communicated to the counsels.
Igwe, who is standing trial over alleged money laundering and possessing in his custody the sum of 498,000 dollars had however earlier pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Meanwhile, the state Government has taken over the prosecution of the matter from the police.
Counsel to the Rivers State Government Chidi Eke informed the court today of a fiat by the Attorney General of the Federation directing the state government to take over the matter.
Trial judge DAYLOP-PAM while granting the request of the state counsel to take over the matter adjourned the substantive suit to the 4th of May for hearing.
