The Rivers State Advertisemnet and use of state owned properties Prohibition bill has scaled through second reading on the floor of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
The blll is expected to prohibit the use of residential buildings for non residential purposes, prohibit outdoor advertisements, particularly posting of bills, posters and the use of state owned institutions or public schools for political rallies.
The bill stipulates that persons or political parties who are to use public schools are to pay a non refundable security fee of five million naira including obtaining permission two weeks before such use, and persons intending to use residential areas for other purposes are also expected to obtain permission from the commissioner of Urban development
Defaulters commit an offence and are liable to a fine.
The bill is sponsored by Leader of the House, Hon Martin Amaewhule.
