The demolition of number 5 and 9 Akassa Street in Old GRA, properties said to belong to the Bayelsa State Government by the Rivers State Government is not going down well with the government of Bayelsa State.
Commissioner for lands and urban development in Bayelsa State Esau Andrew in an interview described the demolition as unfortunate and assured that the Bayelsa State Government would deploy every legal means to challenge the act.
As you may know, the Rivers State Government through the permanent Secretary ministry of land and survey Alozie Nwala had in a notice dated 19th of April 2023 given occupants of the building fourteen days to vacate the buildings.
The letter it was gathered was a follow up to an earlier letter issued in 2021 by the Rivers State Government calling for the renovation of the dilapidated building which was said to be causing nuisance and defacing the Rivers State Government’s urban renewal program.
