The All Progressives Congress in Rivers State has condemned what it described as the gruesome murder of a father of three – Alafuro Peterside by a mobile Police officer in Port Harcourt few days ago.
Spokesperson of the party, Darlington Nwauju in a statement on Tuesday called on the state commissioner of Police to ensure justice is speedily done.
His statement reads,
The All Progressives Congress in Rivers State received the news of the gruesome murder of 42yrs old Alafuro Peterside, a Nigerian citizen, by a serving personnel of the Nigeria Police.
This extra-judicial killing of citizen Alafuro in Rivers State has become one too many given the unenviable humanrights record set by the Police in Rivers State with the torture and killing of Chima Ikwunado in December of 2019, Lovenda Elekwachi in April 2020 and now, Alafuro Peterside who was murdered in cold blood in the presence of his family!
Rivers APC calls on the Commissioner of Police in the state to ensure justice is speedily done and forthwith ensure officers and men under his Command undergo psychological and mental evaluation; undergo compulsory civic and human rights education; widen the scope of the command’s human rights desk and ensure only officers who have clean humanrights record are recommended for promotion to the Police Service Commission (PSC).
Our party do also commiserate with the family of the deceased and demand that adequate compensations be paid by the authorities to cover for the welfare of the family of the late Alafuro while we pray that no resident of the state or family is subjected to such a traumatic experience in future.
