The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) loyal to Emeka Beke has strongly criticised a recent statement by Felix Morka, spokesperson for the party’s national office, describing his remarks on the party’s leadership dispute in the state as hasty and evasive.
In a press release signed by Rivers APC Publicity Secretary, Darlington Nwauju, the state chapter accused Morka of failing to address the key issue of who the courts have legally recognized as the authentic chairman of the party in Rivers State.
Nwauju questioned Morka’s silence during violent incidents allegedly targeting APC members, including the January 19, 2023, bombing of the party’s governorship campaign venue at Rumuwoji, Port Harcourt. He also accused Morka of undermining the judiciary and called on the Legal Practitioners Privileges Council to investigate him for what was described as unprofessional conduct unbecoming of a lawyer.
The statement further criticised APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje, accusing him of sidelining court rulings in an attempt to impose a caretaker committee on the party’s state structures. It referenced multiple court judgments, including Suit No PHC/3859/CS/2024 and Suit No PHC/3592/CS/2023, which the Rivers APC said nullified Ganduje’s actions in Rivers State.
“The party must stand by the rule of law,” the statement read. “Mr. Morka should seek guidance from the National Legal Adviser before making statements that contradict legal realities and undermine the judiciary.”
The Rivers APC emphasized its commitment to upholding constitutional processes and urged the national leadership to respect valid court decisions on party leadership.
