Miracle Anele, a level 200 student of the Department of Sociology, Rivers State University has won the just concluded SUG Elections Today.
Anele, won the presidential election with a total number of 2349 votes, defeating his closest rival Howells Henry, a level 300 student of Law who garnered 1279 votes. Legalu Suanu another law student came a distant third with just 581 votes.
Juliet Charles, was elected to succeed Harmony Aluge, the outgoing Vice President. She polled a total of 2098 votes to defeat her only opponent Okafor Chineye Joy who got 1603 votes. For the office of Secretary General, Amadi James defeated Paulmaah Emmanuel to emerge victorious
Godswill Oluchukwu, emerged assistant secretary general, Jumbo Victory as Financial Secretary, Amadi Virtue as Public Relations Officer. Also amongst the winners are Goodluck Hillary Chibuzor as Director Of Socials, Eze Odioka Felix as Welfare Secretary and Sopriala Graham Samuel as Auditor General.
For the position of the Director Of Sports, Favour Aselemi a 200 level nursing student defeated his rival Tudor James with over 1800 votes margin making her the candidate with the widest winning margin. The position for Transport and Equipments Secretary was unopposed and Didi Abraham was returned elected.
However, our correspondent observed that the election was marred by vote buying and voter apathy. Some students refused to vote, others insisted on selling their pins for the highest bidder.
The newly elected officials are expected to be sworn in, next year January.
