A rape case involving a lecturer of the Rivers State University, Professor, David Ogbonna and a female student has been adjourned till 29th of August 2022 by a Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Port Harcourt.
Chief Magistrate, Poromon Menenen adjourned the case following a report by G.U. Amana, counsel to the state that he was yet to receive the advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecution.
This is despite an initial report by the Attorney General of Rivers state, that the state is prepared to take over the prosecution of the matter on the last adjourned date.
Recall that the accused, a lecturer with the Microbiology Department of the institution, was earlier arraigned by the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) on the 28 of June.
The lecturer is being accused of sexually assaulting the female student. He has since pleaded not guilty.
