The Rivers State Anti-Quackery Committee, has sealed up Parlay Hospital, Ogale, Eleme Local Government Area.
Hope Avundaa, member of the Committee in a statement said the hospital was sealed on Friday, September, 20 2024.
The statement read, “The Rivers State Anti-Quackery Committee, led by Dr Vincent Wachukwu, DMS RSMOH, sealed up Parlay Hospital, Ogale, Eleme LGA, yesterday , Friday 20th September , 2024.
This followed investigations of mismanaged cases, complications and mortalities reported by members of the public.
The MD, Dr. John Ogundayo, alleged to have graduated from ABSUTH (2022) but has been running a medical practise of over 10years. He currently has a temporary license (still on internship with 2 postings completed). He is assisted by Mr Chidozie Offor, a fresh graduate from Jinzu Medical School, China, with neither MDCN registration nor internship experience.
Dr. John Ogundayo is reported to conduct both major and minor surgeries without supervision or Anaesthetist support. The facility boasts of a staff strength of 6 Auxiliary nurses who also double as trainers for a population of 16 trainees.
The Committee frowned at the poor standard of practice and quality of care, the lack of yesterday , Friday 20th September , 2024. and capacity to practise without supervision and the risk it poses to the health of the unsuspecting public who are rather deceived to visit such places.
We also noted poor prescriptions, lack of proper documentation, including No Post Ops note on surgical patients, lack of hospital record keeping, amongst others.
The Committee uses this opportunity to educate the public of the benefits of enrolling into Rivers State Contributory Health Protection Program(RiVCHPP), to enjoy the benefits of revitalized health services in General Hospitals and Primary Health Care facilities, in line with the mandate of His Excellency, Governor Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS, to promote accessible and affordable health services in safe and standard health care facilities while preventing exploitation from quacks.
We also sound a warning to Medical Doctors who collaborate, train, operate and collude with quacks and facilities run by unqualified practitioners, against crossing the lines of ethical medical practices.
