The Association of Community Pharmacists Rumuola branch in Port Harcourt has called on the Federal Government to enforce the ban on public smoking. This is to deter others from doing so.
The Zonal Chairman of the Association, Dr. Aduke Akinshikpe made the revelation at an event marking the 2020, “World No Tobacco Day” in Port Harcourt. She noted that smokers are at greater risk of dying of COVID-19. This is because smoking exposes the lungs to different diseases.
Dr. Aduke equally stated that passive smokers are also prone to the virus as she advises people to stay far when someone is smoking. Smokers die when they don’t quit smoking, as the risks involved are enormous, she asserted.
Aduke urged smokers to quit as it is dangerous to health and has no benefits. The event was attended by medical experts and concerned stakeholders.
