The Presidency has announced the arrest of a suspect allegedly responsible for creating and circulating a fake voice recording purported to be that of President Bola Tinubu.
Presidential spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, revealing that the suspect, identified as Ifechukwu Dennis, was apprehended by a special crack team of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) in Benin City.
According to Onanuga, Dennis allegedly generated the fake audio and distributed it to unsuspecting individuals, falsely presenting it as the voice of President Tinubu.
“The IGP crack team has arrested Ifechukwu Dennis, who originated the fake voice that he passed on to his gullible targets as President Tinubu’s voice,” the presidential spokesman stated.
He added that the Nigeria Police Force is expected to issue an official statement providing further details on the arrest and ongoing investigation.
The Presidency noted that the arrest is connected to the circulation of an alleged audio recording that falsely claimed to feature the President’s voice. Authorities are continuing investigations into the matter.
