COVID-19 Rivers State

In the wake of the coronavirus outbreak, Rivers State has been hit with 7 confirmed cases with 2 discharged and no deaths.

Governor Nyesom Wike in a swift reaction few weeks ago, ordered the closure of businesses, banned large gatherings and all non-essential travels, and restricted religious activities in the state. These actions were geared towards curbing the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Few days ago, he ordered the total lockdown of some areas in Port Harcourt, due to the flagrant violation of his directive by residents of the areas.

The feature images are of the ever busy Ikwerre Road in Port Harcourt, which is now completely empty as people are complying with the stay-at-home order. Ikwerre Road is home to many companies, parastatals, businesses and two major markets in the state.

Meanwhile, there have being calls by some stakeholders in the state for the government to lift the total lockdown. Some believe it is not a solution to the problem, as it is only causing untold hardship to the people.
