A mobile Police officer attached to the Elelenwo Division has allegedly shot-dead a 38 year old man identified as Jimoh Abiodun on Saturday in Port Harcourt, for being in possession of an iPhone and his refusal to bail himself.
Younger brother to the deceased, Ismaila Abiodun who disclosed this in a statement after the incident said he and the deceased were on his motorcycle when the officer pulled them over at Elelenwo.
Ismaila said the officer searched them and found an iPhone in his brother’s pocket and immediately asked them to bail themselves. They told the officer they only had N1000.
He stated that the officer got angry and shot his brother twice over their failure to give him money. He also alleged that the other officers tried to kill him with their vehicle so as to conceal the story.
Wife of the deceased, Azizat Abiodun has called for justice over the death of her husband. She called on the Police hierarchy to ensure that that the killer cop is brought to justice.
Meanwhile, the Rivers State Police command has confirmed the incident.
