The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed that an explosion rocked the mile 3, market in Diobu, Port Harcourt, leaving three persons injured.
Spokesperson for the state Police Command, Nnamdi Omoni in a statement shortly after the incident, said the commissioner of Police, Eboka Friday have ordered a full Investigation into the matter.
Omoni, explained that a locally made dynamite exploded when a fish seller known as Mama Joy, was opening her shop. He said three persons were seriously injured.
He also said Explosive Ordinance Disposal has been dispatched to the scene of the incident to ensure the market is safe for normal business activities.
Omoni stated that normalcy have returned to the market, as he urged residents to go about their business without fear.
“The Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) was immediately despatched to the scene to sweep and render the entire market safe. Normal trading activities resumed immediately,” he said.
“In the meantime, the Commissioner of Police, CP Eboka Friday has ordered a full scale investigation into the incident with a view to ascertaining the cause of the explosion [as well as] bring the perpetrators to justice,” he added.
