The new Acting Inspector-General of Police, Alkali Baba has ordered the immediate disbandment of his Monitoring Units in Port Harcourt and Lagos.
The IGP, made the announcement during a meeting with Zonal-AIGs and Commissioners of Police, on Thursday in Abuja.
He said disbandment of the units became necessary, following incessant complaints of harassment, against officers of the team.
He also said the entire Monitoring Unit will be re-organized to restore professionalism, and discourage duplication of police functions that encouraged abuse of processes and indiscipline.
He stated that the major task ahead of the force, is to address secession threats, banditry, kidnapping, armed robbery and other violent crimes bedeviling the nation, in the shortest possible time.
