The Port Harcourt City Local Government Council says over 400 manhole covers were stolen in the past one year.
Mayor of PHALGA, Hon. Allwell Ihunda said this in a chat with journalists Today.
According to him, those stealing the manhole covers are putting the lives of residents of the area at risk as the holes are over 10ft deep.
He said that the council is currently replacing the stolen manholes to safeguard the lives of Rivers people.
He also they have reached out to community leaders and the Diobu Vigilante to ensure adequate security of the manhole covers.
Ihunda warned those stealing the covers to desist from the act as anyone caught will face the full weight of the law.
