The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has threatened that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will institute legal action against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for failing to recognise the party’s caretaker committee.
Wike made this known during a media briefing in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, where he accused INEC of acting contrary to the law following the expiration of the tenure of the Illiya Damagum–led National Working Committee (NWC).
According to the former Rivers State governor, the PDP had lawfully set up a caretaker committee to manage the party’s affairs after the expiration of the Damagum-led executive, but INEC has refused to acknowledge the new leadership structure.
