Factional Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, Tony Okocha, has called on the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly to join the party following its victory in the just concluded local government elections.
Okocha made the appeal during a press briefing in Port Harcourt, where he declared that the APC remains open to new members and would receive them warmly.
“The time is now ripe for the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, and the Rivers Assembly members to join the APC,” Okocha said.
He disclosed that some former members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who contested under the APC platform in the elections had already defected to the party, although the decision was not publicly announced.
Okocha further explained that the APC deliberately avoided fielding candidates in Port Harcourt City (PHALGA), Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni (ONELGA), and Obio-Akpor local government areas, acknowledging that the party stood little chance of winning there.
