A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), loyal the the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike has constituted appeal panels to address petitions and complaints arising from its recently concluded primary elections for presidential, governorship, national assembly and state assembly positions.
The party said the move is aimed at promoting transparency, fairness and internal democracy in its electoral process ahead of forthcoming elections.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Jungudo Haruna Mohammed, the party approved separate appeal panels for state and national assembly primaries as well as governorship and presidential primaries.
The States and National Assembly Appeals Panel is chaired by Barrister Suleiman Afolagbe, while Dr. Erastus C. Awortu, Barrister Okoye Charles, Hon. Mtom Isaac Terkuma, Hon. Matthew Yari, Barrister George Ariolu, Barrister Mark O. Lawrence and Barrister Abdul Kumo will serve as members. Barrister Nnenna Aladum will serve as secretary of the panel.
The panel is scheduled to sit on June 8 and 9, 2026, at the National Working Committee (NWC) Hall, Wadata Plaza, Wuse Zone 5, Abuja.
Similarly, the Governorship and Presidential Appeals Panel will be chaired by Hon. Abdulrahman Mohammed, with 23 other members drawn from across the country. Senator Samuel N. Anyanwu will serve as secretary of the panel.
The panel is expected to sit on June 10, 2026, at the NWC Hall, Wadata Plaza, Abuja.
The PDP explained that the panels will hear and review appeals from contestants and stakeholders dissatisfied with the outcome of the primaries and make recommendations in accordance with the party’s constitution, electoral guidelines and relevant laws.
The party noted that the constitution of the appeal panels underscores its commitment to ensuring credible candidate selection processes as preparations for future elections gather momentum.
