Port Harcourt, Nigeria – The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has impounded a container truck carrying approximately 70,000 litres of stolen crude oil in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
Acting on intelligence, the Commandant General’s Special Intelligence Squad (CG’S SIS) intercepted the truck at the Eleme Flyover in Elelewon. The vehicle, a red-head, navy-blue container truck with registration number AGL574XY, was equipped with an in-built storage tank used for transporting the stolen crude.
According to Commandant AS Dandaura, head of the CG’S SIS, the truck’s operators fled upon sighting security operatives. He confirmed that the stolen crude was illegally siphoned from vandalized wellheads and damaged pipelines in the Niger Delta.
Dandaura stated that an investigation is underway to track down those responsible for the oil theft, describing it as a “heinous act of economic sabotage.” He added that the recovered crude oil and the truck would be subjected to legal proceedings for forfeiture, with proceeds remitted to the Proceeds of Crime Account (POCA).
The NSCDC reiterated its commitment to combating oil theft and pipeline vandalism in the region, warning that those involved will be brought to justice.
