Abuja — The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) has debunked reports of an explosion at the Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company (WRPC), clarifying that the facility is undergoing routine maintenance.
According to a statement issued by the Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Olufemi Soneye, operations at WRPC’s Area 1 were deliberately halted on January 25, 2025, to carry out necessary maintenance work on select equipment, including field instruments critical for stable operations.
According to him, the intervention aims to ensure the production of high-quality products such as Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) and Kerosene. The maintenance is reportedly on track, with Area 1 expected to resume operations within a few days.
He said despite the ongoing maintenance, NNPC Ltd. confirmed that AGO distribution has continued, with an average of eight trucks loaded daily over the past 11 days. The company assured the public of a steady supply of petroleum products.
He expressed appreciation for stakeholders’ cooperation during the maintenance period and reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring uninterrupted product availability.
