The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has criticized the recent increase in the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (petrol), describing it as a show of insensitivity to the plight of ordinary Nigerians.
Speaking on the issue, the NLC Deputy President of the Political Commission, Prof. Theophilus Ndubuaku, faulted the government’s approach, noting that key stakeholders such as workers’ representatives, the organized private sector, and student bodies were not consulted before implementing the hike.
According to him, in a more organized society, a roundtable discussion would have been held to analyze the consequences and determine the best course of action.
He warned that the price increase would exacerbate inflation, weaken the naira, and significantly impact the cost of food and transportation. Ndubuaku further criticized the government’s economic strategy, which he termed “Tinubunomics,” calling it untested and inadequately planned.
