The Federal Government of Nigeria has suspended some staff of the National Identity Management Commission, caught extorting National Identification Number applicants.
Honourable Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Pantani disclosed this in a statement today.
The minister had over the weekend warned officials to desist from collecting money from applicants or risk seven years in prison when apprehended.
Complaints by applicants over the illegal act, led to the official statement by the minister who noted that the registration was free.
