Nigeria has been awarded a permanent seat on the Board of the African Central Bank.
In a press statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and signed by Foreign Affairs Minister, Yusuf Tuggar, the government said the development reinforces Nigeria’s leadership role in Africa’s economic integration, peace, security, and democratic governance efforts.
According to the statement, the Executive Council agreed to grant Nigeria permanent representation on the African Central Bank Board, describing the move as a landmark step in shaping the continent’s financial architecture.
Nigeria will also serve on the Board of the Technical Convergence Committee of the African Monetary Institute, the body tasked with laying the groundwork for the proposed continental central bank.
The ministry said the appointments reflect Nigeria’s economic weight, technical expertise, and commitment to Africa’s monetary integration agenda.
