The Nigeria Police Force has announced that the training of a new police unit to replace the scrapped Special Anti-Robbery Squad will begin next week.
Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu disclosed this during a meeting with Pop Singer, David Adeleke popularly known as Davido in his office yesterday.
The IGP had invited the singer over the #EndSARS protest by Nigerian youths across the country.
The IGP during the chat equally promised to investigate all cases of brutality by SARS operatives and bring officers found wanting to book.
“We just disbanded (SARS) yesterday (Sunday), so protesters should calm down and give us time to fix the problem. The general public will be part of the process of getting a new outfit,” he said.
“I’m talking to you so, I will keep talking to many others and get civil societies involved and get their input towards the new unit. We want justice to be done and justice will be done, We admit the trust gap is wide but we will work to bridge that gap,” Adamu added.
The IGP furthermore assured that those who were assaulted by the disbanded SARS personnel would be compensated upon the conclusion of investigation.
