Youth groups under the Niger Delta Youth Council (NDYC) have issued a seven-day ultimatum to President Bola Tinubu, warning of a potential shutdown of oil production across the region if their demands are not met.
The groups are protesting the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State and are demanding the immediate restoration of the state’s statutory revenue allocation, an end to any impeachment moves against Governor Siminalayi Fubara, and a public retraction of alleged anti-Ijaw comments attributed to former Governor Nyesom Wike.
In an open letter signed by NDYC President Bene Youkore Mamamu, the group warned that failure to comply with their demands could lead to a total halt in oil production, a move that could severely impact Nigeria’s already struggling economy.
