The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has equipped women and youths with fashion design skills following the successful completion of a training programme organised in collaboration with Greg Daniel Nigeria Limited.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony, the Commission’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Dr Samuel Ogbuku, described the initiative as part of efforts to empower young people through skills development and entrepreneurship.
Ogbuku said the participants were chosen based on their demonstrated interest and competence, as reflected in the Commission’s database, stressing that the selection process was not influenced by personal connections.
He explained that the training exposed participants to both basic and advanced fashion design techniques, noting that their ability to produce clothing items was evidence of the practical knowledge acquired.
The NDDC boss urged the graduates to build on the skills gained, establish their own businesses and share their knowledge with others.
He added that seeing the beneficiaries develop into leading fashion designers in the country would be a major source of satisfaction for the Commission.
