The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has confirmed that the upcoming Niger Delta Sports Festival will take place in Akwa Ibom State, aimed at fostering unity and youth empowerment across the region.
NDDC Managing Director, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, revealed this during a visit to Governor Umo Eno, emphasizing the festival’s importance in addressing shared ecological and economic challenges while promoting regional integration through sports.
The event will feature 20 sporting activities, drawing athletes from across the Niger Delta and providing a platform for them to showcase their talents.
Governor Eno expressed strong support for the initiative, highlighting its potential to boost local businesses and encourage community engagement. A dedicated committee will collaborate with the NDDC to ensure the festival’s success and maximize its positive impact on the state.
Local schools and sports clubs are urged to participate, with hopes that the event will inspire young athletes to aim for international recognition.
