The Federal Government says the on going National Sports Festival in Edo State, will continue despite threat by the Local Organizing Committee to halt the games.
The Local Organizing Committee, had in a statement threatened to halt the games today, because they were yet to receive funds from the Federal Government.
Shortly after the announcement by the LOC, the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, in a statement said the games will go on as scheduled.
The statement also said, it is not aware of plans by the Edo State Government to cancel the 20th National Sports Festival for any reason.
“The Honorable Minister, Permanent Secretary and Directors are on ground in Benin City where the Festival is holding, and it is expected that the Edo State Government would formally invite the Ministry for a meeting should any urgency exist around the National Sports Festival or communicate officially with the Main Organising Committee (MOC) for the festiva,” part of the statement read.
