Legendary former basket ball player, Michael Jordan has announced that he will be donating the sum of $100 million over the next 10 years to organizations that are dedicated to fighting racial equality in the world. This is following the death of George Floyd, a 46-year-old Black man, who died on May 25 after a Minnesota police officer knelt on Floyd’s neck for almost nine minutes.
Jordan who disclosed this in a letter from his company, Jordan brand on Friday said, “Until the ingrained racism that allows our country’s institutions to fail is completely eradicated, we will remain committed to protecting and improving the lives of Black people”.
Jordan who released a statement earlier in the week to speak out against racial injustice, noted that “Black Lives Matter” isn’t a controversial statement. He commended progress that has been made while recognizing that there is still more work that needs to be done.
Celebrities such as Kanye West, Seth Rogen, Drake, Ryan Reynolds and The Weekend have equally donated huge amounts of money to the Minnesota Freedom Fund and other organizations in the fight against racism.
