The Federal Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) has released the Value Added Tax (VAT) revenue figures generated across Nigerian states in the first quarter of 2025, with Lagos State maintaining its position as the top contributor.
According to the data, Lagos generated N819.62 billion in VAT, significantly outpacing other states. Rivers followed distantly with N278.23 billion, while Oyo ranked third with N79.78 billion.
Bayelsa recorded N27.26 billion, ahead of Kano (N22.97 billion), Edo (N20.73 billion), and Delta (N20.04 billion). Other states in the top ten include Akwa Ibom (N16.08 billion), Kwara (N14.43 billion), and Benue (N12.36 billion).
The report showed a wide disparity in VAT generation across the federation. States like Abia (N2.92 billion), Cross River (N2.65 billion), Imo (N2.34 billion), and Taraba (N2.33 billion) were among the lowest contributors.
The figures underscore the dominance of economically vibrant states in VAT contributions, with the top three states alone accounting for over 70% of the total VAT revenue in the period under review.
