The Federal Government has confirmed an imported case of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), with 44 contacts identified as part of efforts to contain the infection.
The Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Muhammad Pate, disclosed this during a media briefing in Abuja on Tuesday, saying laboratory tests confirmed the infection.
According to Pate, the patient is a woman who recently travelled to Uganda in East Africa and returned to Nigeria on September 7 with symptoms that worsened four days later.
The woman was reportedly admitted to a private hospital, where she received treatment for several days before the diagnosis was confirmed.
The minister said the patient had been placed in isolation and was receiving medical care, while contact tracing had commenced to identify and monitor people who might have been exposed to the virus.
He added that surveillance had been intensified at the country’s entry points to prevent further spread of the disease.
