A former Governor of Bayelsa State and candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the just concluded gubernatorial elections in the state – Timipre Sylva has described as unfortunate a statement credited to former President, Goodluck Jonathan that he would have relocated his mother to Abuja if Governor, Douye Diri had lost the election.
Jonathan reportedly said this on Friday when he visited Diri in Yenagoa, to congratulate him on his victory at the poll.
While congratulating Diri for winning the exercise, the former president said if Douye had lost, the gains made in curbing insecurity would have been lost.
Reacting to the statement, Sylva said, “former President Goodluck Jonathan’s statement is unfortunate. I sincerely hope he was misquoted. Let me just quote our respected Wole Soyinka: “you can take the hippopotamus out of the swamp but you cannot take the swamp out of the hippopotamus”.
