The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Rivers State has commenced a three-day training programme for Supervisory Presiding Officers (SPOs) ahead of the February 21 bye-election.

The Hon. Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of Rivers State, Prof. Gabriel Yomere, urged participants to approach the training with the utmost seriousness, emphasizing the critical role SPOs play in ensuring the smooth conduct of elections. The training began today, Friday, February 6, and is scheduled to conclude on Sunday, February 8.

In her remarks, the Administrative Secretary, Dr. Mrs. Angela Ebhodaghe, called on staff to uphold the principles of transparency and accountability, stressing that these values are key to delivering a free, credible, and fair bye-election.

A team of facilitators from INEC’s headquarters is on hand to conduct and monitor the training exercise, ensuring that all participants are well-prepared for their roles during the election.
