The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has removed the names of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) led by David Mark from its official portal, complying with a Court of Appeal directive.
In a statement on Wednesday, INEC said it would maintain the status quo ante bellum until a substantive case before the Federal High Court in Abuja is determined.
The decision comes amid a prolonged leadership dispute within the ADC, with factions headed by Nafiu Bala Gombe and David Mark both claiming control of the party’s national structure.
The appellate court, in a judgment delivered on March 12, 2026, ordered all parties to maintain the pre-dispute situation and avoid actions that could influence the trial’s outcome.
“That the Commission would, in accordance with the Court of Appeal Order in Appeal No. CA/ABJ/145/2026, refrain from taking any step capable of preempting the court or undermining proceedings before the trial court, considering all processes filed,” the statement said.
INEC noted that the names of the current NWC members were uploaded to its portal on September 9, 2025, after the suit had been filed on September 2, 2025.
